Liverpool enjoyed many amazing away days last year

It is just over three weeks until it all starts up again and we all become nervous wrecks, when Monday morning begins all you look forward to is the weekend to watch the Reds. However, this season we will be playing during the week as well as we’re now back amongst Europe’s elite.

For me personally though I can’t wait for the away trips to begin again. Last season no traveling fans in the Premier League were treated to better performances and results than Liverpool supporters.

I recently had a warm up for the new season with a short trip to Preston and it was good to see the same faces at the match, but I am ready for the proper stuff to be back.

We picked up the most points (35) on the road and scored the most goals (48) away from home.

We were royally entertained with the side only failing to score once away from Anfield last season and that was back in November against Arsenal.

On our travels we scored three or more goals on ten occasions; it was a lot of fun watching Liverpool last season away from home and I can’t wait for it all again.

Those who have traveled to watch Liverpool over the past four seasons before last season haven’t been used to picking up points consistently on the road, with defeats to teams like Blackburn, Blackpool, Q.P.R becoming all too familiar.

Last season that changed, we went to the small teams and turned up with a swagger it was exactly how the song says – ‘Poetry in Motion.’

I remember Hull away being a low point in the season and though we had started the season well I thought ‘here we go again’, but from then I had some of the best away days I have had as a Liverpool supporter and it was a pleasure watching us. It is going to brilliant recreating some of the scenes that were captured by TV cameras last season.

Away to Southampton, West Ham and Norwich the traveling Kop stayed back to celebrate the victories, the grounds were empty apart from us.

At West Ham we were in the ground close to an hour after full time and I took a moment to look round and I saw fathers with their sons taking it all in, what a father/son moment that would have been for them.

You saw all the regular away lads hugging each other. Reliving all this now whilst I type this article has got me in the mood for that first away of the season.

However there is one moment from last season that was not caught on camera and you have probably all heard stories about it. This moment alone gets me excited for the away trips again and it was coming away from Old Trafford after our 3-0 win.

We had blown them away, it was the most convincing away performance for a long time and for a lot of people it was the moment when people believed it was on.

Coming away from Old Trafford that day was the highlight of my season, there were 40 or 50 coaches heading back to the M62 all absolutely buzzing and if you looked out the window you would see lads on the top of the coaches or hanging out of windows.

Everyone was smiling and hugging each other, hugging random people, when you went past another coach you would be celebrating with them, it was like nothing I have seen before following Liverpool and it made me believe that the good days were on the way back for the club.

Then we got back to The Rocket and had a few pints and as each coach pulled in the pub got busier, it was amazing.

I honestly believe that we will see similar scenes this season and though Suarez has gone We Are Liverpool and we are back.

Reminds me of ‘the great away day’ As a mid 50’s fan I supported home and away through the great years,. You’ve just reminded me of in all of those years the greatest domestic away day. It was wining the league away against Wolves.
The M6 on the way back became at once the longest car park and a ribbon of singing red fans, as though the Kop had spread out, a long red conga, fans sitting on cars and coaches, not always their own :-). Singing until the early hours, bands of fans walking along the hard shoulder, passing around drinks, sharing jokes and anecdotes and of course singing.
New season just around the corner, can’t wait.

Absolutely true! Last season was just unbelieveable. Teams got shivers down their spine whenever Lfc stepped into the pitch, how i pittied Wenger at the touchline when we spanked them 5 at anfield, thats is the highlight of our season(IMO). And how we blew spurs at their backyard was a fairy tale of its own. Was i the only liverpool fan that saw flanagan’s goal and how the rest of the players reacted to it? The traveling supporters went wild. Anxiety is killing me already, can’t wait for the new season.

so many people ve criticised the team since the departure of suarez esp arsenal fans(thanks nd no thanks to the £40mil+1 bid nd the what do they think they are smoking over there @emirate tweet by cool Mr. Henry)…i expected it all, but if we can get remy nd lovren now, i ve made up my mind to go all out nd bet on liverpool finishing above arsenal…. city are fovourites, chelsea, lfc, arsenal in d mix….funny how people think manure wil come from 7th to kick us out while they forget that Everton has a better chance to break into the top 4 than manure…. My prediction CITY-LFC, ASSANAL-EVERTON-CHELSEA …. YNWA

Lovren reportedly due for medicals with LFC this weekend. Remy signing will be announced. Now its only the leftback thats missing. So, Pino pino? Do you think LFC is that useless without Suarez and big name signings? I’ve supported LCF for the past 32years and nothing pisses me off than people throwing in the towel and belittling the existing players before the season even started.
