Reina looks set to leave Liverpool for German Champions Bayern

It’s never a good moment, when a club great moves on but that seems to be likely for Pepe Reina in the next few days after Liverpool reportedly agreed to accept a fee of an initial £2.5 million for the Spanish ‘keeper from Bayern Munich.

A veteran of just short of 400 games for the club, Reina has spent 8 seasons at Anfield, prior to last seasons loan move to Napoli and was an ever-present for the majority of that time.

Reina’s ability at saving penalties, his vocal, forceful style of goalkeeping and his distribution made him a key component during the successes and title challenge under Rafa Benitez but has never seemed to be rated by Brendan Rodgers. Which has obviously led to rumours that both have had problems with one another throughout Rodgers’ tenure.

AC Milan and Napoli were reportedly very keen to sign Reina but the player’s £110,000 wages were a huge stumbling block and it now seems that Bayern are more than prepared to pay what the Spanish ‘keeper is asking.

Once Reina moves on it will be a sad day and Liverpool will be losing one of the top goalkeepers of the last decade. More worryingly, it will mean that Brendan Rodgers is left with just Mignolet and Jones – neither one striking a convincing figure between the sticks for Liverpool, meaning that another top goalkeeper will become a must before the season begins.

Good luck wherever he goes. Treated unfairly by us in the end. Loyalty in football and all that .

He was the one angling for a move to Barcelona for years but a concrete bid never arrived. Good riddance, another one of Rafa’s signings that went through the motions for years while picking up a fortune.

Picking up wages, and good riddance? Mignolet has worse stats and is second best to the man! Cost 10 million plus in transfer fees alone. He wanted to go back to Barcelona given the chance. Can you blame him and why? In truth, he is a class goalkeeper. Played for Napoli, won a trophy and finally going to Burnley…..or is it Bayern?
