Liverpool Player Ratings vs Middlesbrough

|

Midfield

Lucas Leiva – For 120 minutes, Lucas put in a solid shift. He scored two penalties and worked hard at one end and then the other. The sad thing for Lucas is that the captain currently occupies his position and he’s far too often asked to contribute going forward – this is not his strength. May start against Everton but will likely miss out again if Allen is fit enough. Rating – 6

Jordan Rossiter – Nothing more to ask from a youngster than to look composed and commanding, then top it all off by scoring on your debut. It will be at least another 2 years before we see whether Rossiter can become Gerrard’s successor or even just a first-team player but he certainly showed against last night’s opposition that he’s at least a Premier League quality player. Rating – 7

Adam Lallana – It will come for Lallana, he’s too talented for it not to. In the meantime, fans needs to get behind him in the same way they’ve quite blindly got behind Balotelli. He began to look like the player we chased all summer last night, showing poise, ability and intelligence on – and off – the ball, with perhaps the only downside being the amount of time he opted to hold on to possession sometimes, when there were better options available sooner. This too, will come. Rating – 7

Only 6 for Lucas? The guy was excellent and showed Rodgers what a defensive midfielder does. Lambert deserved 4 but to suggest that there’s more to come from him is hopeful to say the least.
