According to reports in a number of leading national newspapers and online sources overnight, Liverpool have agreed a £3 million fee with Malaga for their Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
One of the stars of the 2014 World Cup, Ochoa stood out for his incredible shot-stopping and eccentric personality and a number of top European sides chased him before the ‘keeper opted to move to Malaga in Spain, with the promise of first-team football.
Having seen Simon Mignolet continually underwhelm and often cost the side goals, the club has seemingly had enough and decided to take a chance on Ochoa who, at 29, and with over 300 club and over 60 international appearances to his name represents a much more experienced option.
With the Red in cup action tonight, we’ll be likely to see Australian Brad Jones continue his run in the side and, despite showing more solidity than his counterpart against Utd on Sunday, is not considered an option in the long-term.
Do you think that signing Ochoa is the way forward, or should Liverpool be looking at more expensive/illustrious targets to solve the club’s goalkeeping issues? Let us know below.
