So, the only minimal drama we’ve experienced so far on Deadline Day is dead and buried, as Rickie Lambert has turned down a move to Aston Villa.
Liverpool were believed to be reluctant to let the player leave anyway, and many fans raised concerns that letting Lambert leave would leave the club short should the club’s star man suffer any more injuries but after having apparently been slightly tempted by the [reported] £5 million offer from Aston Villa, Lambert himself has now opted to stay at the club he supported as a boy in order to try and prove himself.
In the past 10 minutes a number of respected local and national journalists have confirmed the decision of the player on Twitter:
Important to say a deal to take Rickie Lambert to Aston Villa was on the table but he turned it down.

Whilst the Liverpool Echo‘s own Phil McNulty has just made it clear that the offer was on the table but Lambert himself made the decision to stay:
Big decision for Lambert with Villa interest – but would have been hard to tear himself away from LFC after waiting so long to get there.
