Four Young Strikers For LFC To Target

Danny Ings (Burnley)

Gathering plenty of media attention, Danny Ings was reportedly a target for Liverpool this January, however relegation-threatened Burnley would not sell and Ings did not want to leave the club in a lurch.

Yet it is easy to see why Liverpool would be attracted to a man who will surely become capped internationally by England. Having scored for fun at Championship level, he has made a very promising transition to the Premier League, with nine goals – not bad in a team which struggles to create anything, let alone score.

It is not just the goals however. Whilst he may lack burning pace, his movement is exceptional, as he showed recently when terrorising Manchester United at Old Trafford, and he is capable of holding up play and bringing midfielders into the game with excellent composure on the ball.

Many see him as an ideal foil for Sturridge, not only covering him but providing competition for those behind the main forward in Lallana and Coutinho.

And at only 22, he has plenty of time to improve and reach his peak, something Rodgers can be adept at in his coaching, as seen notably with Sturridge and Coutinho.

Both Manchester clubs have been linked as they look to bolster their home-grown quotas, but it seems that Ings’ preferred destination is Anfield. Whether he is Rodgers’ first choice remains to be seen, but at only £6m compensation he will certainly be a bargain for whatever club lands him this summer.
