Sterling’s miraculous recovery from illness has meant he’ll be going on the tour

With Liverpool due to embark on a four friendly tour of Australia and Asia next week, the club has today announced the 30-man squad to take part in the friendlies in Adelaide, Brisbane and Kuala Lumpur.

The squad includes: Simon Mignolet, Adam Bogdan, Ryan Fulton, Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno, Kolo Toure, Andre Wisdom, Daniel Cleary, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Joe Maguire, Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, James Milner, Pedro Chirivella, Jordan Rossiter, Joao Teixeira, Jordan Ibe, Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Harry Wilson, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Raheem Sterling, Danny Ings, Rickie Lambert, Divock Origi.

A number of things jump out when looking at the squad the Reds are taking on the tour, namely the absence of Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Raheem Sterling’s inclusion.

Borini and Balotelli are, of course, seemingly available this summer and both are likely to be moved out of the club, should suitable offers come in. Although, in Balotelli’s case, it’s likely he is being given some compassionate leave.

Sterling’s inclusion is quite telling though, particularly with all the talk of a move to Manchester City being a simple formality (provided City offer enough). The move to drag Sterling on tour is clearly a further show of strength from the club, who are determined to get the full amount for the 20 year old.

From a Liverpool point-of-view, it’s highly impressive to see so many local and/or British players in the 30 man squad, with 18 of those being from the British Isles.

Of those, Jordan Henderson is the most high profile and will head off on tour having been made official Liverpool captain in recent days, as well as being the face of FIFA 16 with Lionel Messi, and he is sure to get a great reception from the Reds fans when he arrives.
