Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that newly appointed Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson has been voted by fans to be the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 16 cover athlete in the United Kingdom and Ireland alongside superstar Lionel Messi.

Henderson saw off competition from Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, and Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, as more than nine million football fans around the world voted for the first time in franchise history for their favourite player to be on the FIFA 16 front cover.

“Being part of the first FIFA cover vote was an incredible honour and it’s an amazing feeling to know that the public voted for me to come out on top and to be on the cover of FIFA 16 alongside Messi,” said Henderson. “I’m extremely proud to become the first Liverpool player ever on the cover and the support I’ve had from fans around the world over the past few weeks, particularly Liverpool supporters, has been overwhelming. It’s great to realise every young footballer’s dream and I’m grateful to all of those who voted”.

“Congratulations to Jordan Henderson for being chosen by fans as the EA SPORTS FIFA 16 cover athlete”, said Dan Holman, Head of Product Marketing for the UK and Ireland. “We’ve been amazed by the support all four players participating in the vote campaign have received across the globe. It’s going to be a big year ahead for both FIFA 16 and Jordan Henderson. We wish him the best of luck as the new Liverpool captain.”

Sad day when a player is more interested in off the field ‘achievements’ than actually winning things. This Beckham wanna be is embarrassing himself and a disgrace to great captains like Souness, Emlyn, Yeats etc
