Reds players Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno visited youngsters from The Smith Family charity yesterday who were taking part in an LFC Foundation football coaching clinic.

The players joined Foundation community coaches who were delivering a football coaching session to 60 participants at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre.

The 6-16 year olds who took part in the session were from The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Scholarship Programme, which provides emotional, practical and financial support to help disadvantaged children and young people with their education.

Student leaders were also in attendance from the charity’s Indigenous Youth Leadership Project, which supports young Aboriginal people from remote and regional areas of Australia to complete their education in metro capitals.

All of the participants were rewarded for demonstrating their newly acquired skills with LFC goodie bags and autographs from the Reds stars.

Mamadou Sakho, said: “It was great to have the opportunity to visit these youngsters with Alberto and get involved in their coaching session. We had so much fun and I hope the participants did too.”

Earlier in the day the Foundation also paid a visit to The Reagan Milstein Foundation (RMF), who it already has an existing relationship with having first visited the charity back in 2013.

RMF, which was set up after the passing of Reagan in 2010, who was only 14 years old, aims to achieve equality and opportunity through football.

Much like the LFC Foundation, the charity uses the international language of football as a way to introduce people to less fortunate communities and invite them to make a positive difference.

Community coaches from the Foundation provided a group of 60 8-14 year olds with a football coaching clinic, as well as hosting an awards presentation afterwards, which the Club’s mascot, Mighty Red, was also on hand to assist with.

Andrea Cooper, Head of Liverpool FC Foundation, said: “It was fantastic to be able to support these two great charities as part of our pre-season tour International delivery.

“We have supported The Reagan Milstein Foundation for a number of years now so it was good to be able to revisit them and catch up on their recent work.

“Supporting other charities  to do more of their work, by using the unifying power of our club crest is one of our key ambitions to ensure that we have the greatest impact possible on people’s lives – both at home and across the world.”

Much as I really like Jordan Henderson, this is why Sakho should be club captain. He doesn’t need to “advised” to do these sort of things it’s in his humble nature and is the sort of character that you want as a leader.
