The Liverpool manager wants a confident start at home on Monday night

After a hard fought first win over last season’s conquerors Stoke last week, Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on Liverpool getting off to a winning start and building confidence in front of the home fans.

The team gets off to a start at home on Monday against newcomers AFC Bournemouth and Rodgers is keen for Liverpool to show the fans that they mean business this season with a confident showing.

Speaking via Liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers said: “I think building confidence early on is important.

“I think that’s key in it.

“Getting the vibrancy around the stadium again, the level of football, and obviously winning – if you can do that early on that creates the confidence and it’s something that I’m looking forward to seeing this team evolve with again this season.

“It’s so, so important for you, your home form, if you’re going to succeed and that’s the aim for this season.

“Of course you want to learn and you review [last season] but the main attribute is confidence, it’s the key facet.

“If you’ve got confidence that’ll give you success and that confidence will come from working hard and getting victories at home, it’s as simple as that.

“Our aim and intention in every game is to be on the front foot at home, we are a team that wants to dominate and that will always be the case, particularly at home.”

The Reds won just 10 games at home in the Premier League last season, a total at odds with the season before, and Rodgers clearly believes a strong home record is the basis for a good season.

With Bournemouth coming to Anfield on the back of a defeat in their first game since being promoted from the Championship, Liverpool should be confident of getting a result. But, perhaps equally as important, the team needs to put in a confident, impressive display, after the tentative, edgy first 75 minutes against Stoke last week.

Can the Reds put in a good shift against Bournemouth? Let us know your thoughts – and predictions – below.

I missed the thrashing and humiliations experienced by teams visiting anfield in 2013/14 season. hitting arsenal 4-0 in 18 minutes was something beyond extraordinary. even arsene didn’t have a good trip back home. you remember what happened, don’t you? Everton Tottenham and an incredible match against man city. Wow! I missed all that. till today I do watch that season’s DVD.
up next 2015/16, we can dream again. after all, we opened that season with 1-0 win against stoke and we challenged for the title all the way till the final minute of that season and now it is the same thing. 1-0 a hard fought victory against stoke means we win ugly and amass points as we climb up the table. Yes we can! we shall win our next 10 matches! it is all about putting in the right mentality winning mentality and making sure teams fear us before even the leaque opens up very well.
