Lucas challenging for the ball last night

The game last night against Arsenal encapsulated Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers; brilliant and nerve-wracking in equal parts, with huge disappointment just waiting to happen.

Thankfully, that disappointment was once again held at bay, as the Reds managed to hang on for a 0-0 in a game that, realistically, should have been out of sight after a dominant first half.

Rodgers opted to offer starts to Can, Firmino and Lucas – a player many thought had already played his last game for Liverpool and again thought he’d played his last game for Liverpool following the match at the Emirates. But, if Lucas’ display showed anything, it’s that he still has a huge role to play at Liverpool if Rodgers is true to his word this morning and that Liverpool are a better side – defensively – with him in it.

So, Brendan continues to hold out just on the side of getting his tactics right, with a number of slightly confusing substitutions working out in the end. The Reds managed to hold Arsenal at arms length in the second half and restrict them to barely a handful of semi-decent opportunities. Three clean sheets and seven points from three games is a better start than many would have hoped for.

Good news for LFC fans. The owners kept Rodgers and didn’t sign Klopp as they have already decided Gerrard will be next manager after his 18 month stint at LA Galaxy. As there is a 50-50 chance of champions league LFC will need Gerrards reputation and world wide respect to bring high profile players.
