Toure is a consideration but does he play enough?

Kolo Toure

Another former Man City man, Kolo is a hugely popular figure both inside, and outside, of Anfield. Due to enter into his third season at Liverpool, Toure is a vastly experienced centre back with two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, meaning he knows what it takes to win the big trophies. That alone sets him ahead of most of his Liverpool team-mates.

Not only that, but Toure is one of the most highly thought of figures at Anfield, both on and of the pitch; the fans love him, his team-mates seem to as well, and that alone makes him a popular candidate to lead the team.

You only have to observe the team’s end of season sent off for the previous captain, and the now famous video of Steven Gerrard leading the players in a rendition of the Kolo Toure song to know his popularit. But, at the end of the day, Kolo simply doesn’t play enough and it would turn out to be an empty gesture.

If Toure was guaranteed to take to the field whenever Henderson wasn’t available that would be one thing, but with Skrtel, Lovren and Sakho all vying for a place in what will seemingly be a back two, Kolo’s presence will be missing more often than not.
