The Italian Serie A star would bring a huge amount of experience to Liverpool’s midfield

Claudio Marchisio (Juventus)

Last week reports emerged that Liverpool apparently made a bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, but it was turned down by the Italian giants.

Yet it’s not hard to see why the Reds would like to bring Marchisio to Anfield.

The Italian international has played an integral part in Juventus’ domestic success, winning four consecutive league titles and their first Italian cup in the 21st century, while also helping The Old Lady reach the Champions League final last season, losing to Barcelona.

Marchisio is a tough-tackling central midfielder, recently forming an effective midfield with the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal. Marchisio is very composed on the ball, although not a technician in the same mould as Xabi Alonso or Pirlo, but he is also able to play further forward and contribute some goals and assists.

His intense style of play would fit in perfectly with Klopp’s philosophy and Marchisio would bring a real winning mentality to the playing staff at Anfield.

At 29 years of age, owners Fenway Sports Group may be cautious about any deal, but if Klopp feels Marchisio is needed then they should do their utmost to bring the Italian to Liverpool.

Given his age, the price is unlikely to be above £25m, but the biggest problem may be convincing Marchisio to leave, as he is a one-club man with Juventus (barring an early loan spell with Empoli).
