Midfield

Lucas Leiva – Given how many injuries Lucas has endured over the years, a rest here and there would be most welcome. But considering he has again shown that he is far and away the best defensive midfielder we have, he simply has to start in what could be a crucial game in the group stages.

Emre Can – The young midfielder has played a lot this season already, particularly under Klopp but has the legs to manage it and his bursting runs from deep will be useful tonight.

Joe Allen – After it was helpfully pointed out that João Teixeira wasn’t in the Europa squad, we’ve plumped for Joe Allen, with Milner best sitting the game out after a poor display against Chelsea at the weekend. Allen will have few chances to prove himself going forward do needs to take them when they arise.
