The Serbian star looks to have held talks with Liverpool

With the January transfer window edging ever closer, it’s likely that Liverpool will be on the lookout for any genuine bargains or, perhaps more likely, any top quality youngsters available for relatively low prices.

Such is the case with Red Star Belgrade midfielder, Marko Grujic, who the Liverpool Echo are reporting is a target for the club, with the Reds apparently in talks to sign the 19 year old.

According to the paper, Liverpool are looking at a £5 million move for the young player, who is an international for Serbia-U21s. And now, the player himself appears to have confirmed that he has even held talks with the club, although any potential move may have to wait until the summer.

Speaking to Serbia’s Blic, the young star said: “I will do my best to show respect to the club [Red Star], the public and the supporters, but then I think I need to choose the best environment for myself in which I’ll get my chance and work with good coaches in good conditions.

“Maybe something will happen, but there’s no rush. I am certainly staying there [Red Star] until the end of the qualifiers for the Champions League. That works for Liverpool too. We had talks and I haven’t made any deal yet. I am still a Red Star player.”

The midfielder has previously been linked with a handful of Europe’s top clubs, including Paris St. Germain most recently but Liverpool may have moved in quickly enough, with reports that Belgrade will be happy to conclude an early deal due to financial difficulties.
