The Liverpool manager wants to see much more from his players

Had you asked most fans at the start of the season, you’d find few who would argue that Leicester would be top at Christmas as they arrived at Anfield for the club’s Boxing Day clash.

You’d have found even fewer that would’ve argued that Claudio Ranieri’s team would be coming to Anfield as – arguably – favourites, for perhaps the first time in the club’s history.

Having seen Klopp’s Liverpool dismantle and demolish stronger sides since he arrived, there is no doubting that Liverpool are more than capable of doing the same to Leicester.

But the title chasers are showing no signs of slowing down, whilst Liverpool came to a shuddering halt last Sunday, after weeks of worsening displays, and only the utmost respect should be paid to Ranieri’s team on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp echoed such thoughts during his pre-match press conference today, as he spoke ahead of the Boxing Day match.

He said (via the Liverpool Echo): “Ranieri is one of the most experienced and successful coaches in the world. There is big respect from both sides.

“They play nearly perfect counter-attacking football. Very quick. I have big respect for Claudio and whole squad of Leicester.”

The Italian has been to a number of clubs, including Liverpool rivals Chelsea, over the years and his appointment was met with derision by most of the British press.

But the charismatic coach has made those claims look ridiculous after guiding Leicester to a remarkable lead at the top of the table, and Jurgen is right to sing his and his club’s praises.

And despite showing great respect for the Premier League leaders, Klopp will be keen to see his players vastly improve on the last performance and learn lessons from the result.

He continued: “We had some very good training this week. Very focused. It was a big knock we got in Watford.

“We had moment after the game to speak. Then you must use the information to look forward to the next game.

“You can lose football games but you have to take the right information from it. We must start better, be aware of counter-attacks.”

Can the Reds turn things around against Leicester and gain the three points? Let us know your thoughts below.
