As reported last week, many outlets had jumped the gun when it came to Red Star Belgrade youngster, Marko Grujic, having signed for Liverpool. It was clearly a work in progress but nothing had been agreed yet.
However, the Liverpool Echo has reported today that the club has now agreed a fee with Red Star of £5 million, but will receive around £1 million of that back after letting the player remain on loan until the end of the season. The club have also apparently negotiated a 10% fee, should Liverpool ever sell the player on.
The young Serbian star has been highly impressive for Red Star since making his debut in 2012 and has gone from strength to strength in the years since, becoming a key player in a season that has seen his team top the Serbian SuperLiga, where they have a 25 point lead over the second placed side.
The 19 year old is due to arrive in Liverpool this week to undergo a medical and put the final touches on his agreement and will likely be confirmed at the start of the January transfer window. Although, Liverpool fans won’t see him in action for the Reds until next season.
Grujic will become the first official signing since Jurgen Klopp took charge, and it is believed that Klopp took a personal role in convincing the player to choose Anfield ahead of the likes of Inter Milan.
