Midfield

Lucas Leiva – Lucas will take some blame for failing to track several runs through the midfield, but he was instrumental in the second half comeback, providing a much more solid platform in front of the defence, allowing the players ahead of him to score 4 second half goals. Klopp clearly appreciated his efforts too, as evidence by the arm draped around the midfielder after the final whistle.. Rating – 6

Jordan Henderson – It may appear harsh to give Henderson such a low ratings, considering his goal but other than pulling a second goal back in the second half, the captain was terrible. We won’t go into too much detail, as he is still returning from a lengthy injury, but Gerrard’s replacement really needs to start stepping up into those very, very big shoes as it has seemed that they may be a bit too big for him at times since his return. Rating – 5

Emre Can – Once again, Can managed to combine the excellent with the awful. Like any young player, he suffers regular lapses in concentration, and he is culpable of not doing a lot of the tracking back that he should. Rating – 5

I am relieved that we managed to win this match, but l am really concerned with our defence. This is an issue that has been an eyesore and has not been rectified since Brendon Rodgers took over from Kenny Dalglish and the LFC hierarchy decided to let Steve Clarke go. Steve Clarke managed the defensive side of the team and we had the best or second best defence record in the EPL for the one and a half seasons that Dalglish and Clarke were in charge of the team. The team created lots of scoring chances, but just failed to score as we hit the woodwork a record number of times in that period.

Klopp needs to get a defence coach and replace the current goalkeeping coach. I am certain a good defence coach will improve our team’s defending, and also identify better defenders to buy if the current ones can’t be improved. A better goalkeeping coach might be able to improve Mignolet’s error prone goalkeeping, and hopefully also identify a better goalkeeper to replace him as number one goalkeeper. Mignolet and Ward can then fight for 2nd spot, but Bogdan should be sold as he is hopeless.
