Another 68 minutes for the main man but he couldn’t quite make the same impact

As we’re currently seeing this season, it’s almost impossible to predict what we’re going to see from this group of players. Many of us believed that there was a risk of being caught out by a very poor Villa side on Sunday. Instead, we absolutely destroyed them in probably one of our most complete performances of the season.

Against Augsburg tonight, it’d be fair to say that most of us were at least hoping for a goal or two to take back to Anfield. And while the chances were certainly there (which gives you confidence for the second leg), the finishing and final-third play was severely lacking.

Of course, taking a result back to Anfield is the most important thing, regardless of how we played but a much improved display at Anfield will be needed to take this plucky German side down.

Maybe Peter Krawietz’s words should be heeded, next time he warns that a side we’re expecting to beat comfortably gives us a game.
