The German international could well leave Cologne in the summer

With Alberto Moreno’s left-back position increasingly under threat, and Jose Enrique enjoying life doing everything but play football, it seems almost certain that Liverpool will be in the market for a new left-back in the summer.

The name that’s cropped up several times throughout January, and since, is that of Cologne’s German international, Jonas Hector who head coach Peter Stoger has admitted could be sold in the summer.

Hector recently scored his first international goal against Italy in a 4-1 victory on Tuesday night, playing for his country for the 12th time and looks almost certain to be heading to the European Championships vying for a first-choice spot.

And Stoger appears to be preparing himself for bids for the player in the summer, resigned to the fact that a full German international is not something you can hold onto for long.

Speaking to kicker, Stoger said:  “I don’t have to talk about what may happen in the summer.

“But if somebody should offer us a three-figure million sum, we’d probably give in.

‘”If a two-figure million sum is offered, we’d consider it.

“And if Jonas Hector says that he doesn’t want to stay here, we’d have to face up to it.”

The 25 year old has spent his entire senior career at Cologne, playing well over 100 games for the club and is considered a very solid, reliable player, winning the club’s Player of the Season last season and has growing reputation in his home country.

There is no doubting Hector would add a more defensive-minded aspect to the full-back position and looks to be right up Klopp’s street, particularly given that he would add extra height to the back four, being over 6 inches taller.

Have you watched Hector play and, if so, would you prefer him to Moreno or shoe-horning Clyne or Flanagan in at left-back? Let us know your thoughts below.
