He may not yet quite be the best manager Liverpool have ever had (but if he does become that, then nobody will complain) but Jurgen Klopp certainly seems to have endeared himself to a great many of his players and fans so far.

And summer signing Roberto Firmino has declared Klopp the best manager he’s ever worked with. In his interview with Liverpool’s Official Magazine, Firmino said: “[He’s] the best manager I’ve worked with.

“I don’t say that because he picks me all of the time. It’s because of his mentality and personality.

“He gives confidence to all of the players. He knows what your potential is, so he always says just one or two words to give you confidence and show trust.

“That’s important for players. I think everybody likes working with him and we are all improving because of him.”

Of all the players at Anfield at the moment, it’s fair to say Firmino has benefited more than most, particularly since the turn of the year and what had initially seemed to be a struggle of a first season in the Premier League has begun to look like a very good one indeed, for a player with 9 goals and 9 assists in his first full season, with over 2 months yet to go.

The Brazilian continued: “I enjoy playing as a striker. I am there to help the team and I’m happy as long as I am playing.

“It is another challenge. I am playing in this position and I am well-prepared for it.”

There’s a chance the 24 year old could retain his place as the ‘striker’ at Old Trafford on Thursday, with Klopp no doubt opting to play things slightly more carefully but whatever role Firmino plays, he’ll do it with the full confidence of the man watching from the bench.
