The midfielder was solid and unlucky not to have had a couple of goals

Midfield

Emre Can – The German midfielder had a very good first half, but noticeably tired and looked off the pace in the second. Whether that was tiredness from midweek, or simply that he struggled to cope with a rejuvenated Southampton, it’s hard to say. Rating – 6

Joe Allen – The Welsh midfielder was excellent in the first 45 and seemed the only player trying to put a stop to Southampton’s comeback in the second but it wasn’t enough. His work-rate more than made up for Henderson’s absence and if his goal had stood, the second half would’ve been no more than a formality. Rating – 7 Man of the Match
