Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that English clubs are also competing with the Serie A side for the signing of Porto midfielder Hector Herrera.

In the same interview where he mentioned Poland midfielder Piotr Zielinski wants to join Liverpool, Laurentiis also said that that “wealthy English clubs” were in the hunt for Herrera and that they could cause problems in the move for the Mexican international. He told Il Mattino (quotes via Tuttomercatoweb):

“We have reached an agreement with [the] Pozzo [family] regarding Zielinski, but the boy prefers Liverpool. Evidently he has never been to Naples or perhaps he is in love with the Beatles. If he does not want to come, he does not come. If I were him I would come running. Herrera? I would like to have him with us. We are moving, but there are are also wealthy English clubs [interested].”

The only English club that have been linked with Herrera in recent weeks is Liverpool, and so it is fair assumption to say the Reds are one of the “wealthy English clubs” De Laurentiis mentions. Herrera is currently away with Mexico at the Copa America but Porto are still locked in negotiations with Napoli regarding the transfer fee with Liverpool also interested. Whether the Reds are in for both Zielinski and Herrera, we will have to wait and see.
