Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Bury defender Emeka Obi, according to the Liverpool Echo. The 15 year old will command a substantial six figure fee up front with more add ons to be paid if the centre half makes it into the Reds first team.
The defender has made one fleeting appearance for Bury so far in a EFL Trophy tie against Morecambe back in late August coming on for the final five minutes in the 4-1 win.
He has made it on to the bench for one more game in the league for the 4-1 victory against Port Vale in late September but he has been playing in Bury’s youth team regularly.
At 6 foot 5 inches, Obi is already physically ready for senior football but still has a lot to learn, and if the signing is finalised, he will likely be playing for Liverpool’s Under 18 and Under 23 sides at Kirby to continue his development.
