Marseille have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia in the January transfer window according to both Goal.com Italy and calciomercato.com.

The French club have money to spend after American businessman Frank McCourt completed his takeover of the Ligue One side and new manager Rudi Garcia is believed to want the French international as one of his first signings.

Kondogbia’s future at Inter has been placed into further doubt after the player was left out of the squad completely for the mid week victory against Torino, due to what was reported as a slight muscle injury.

Head coach Frank De Boer was unhappy with Kondogbia’s performance when he started against Bologna at the end of last month and was brought off after just 28 minutes. The 23 year old has not started a game since and has been subsequently linked with a move to Anfield.

De Boer’s own future at the Giuseppe Meazza is said to be in serious doubt though, and Kondogbia’s fortunes could quickly change under a new manager if one arrives before the January window.
