Liverpool vice captain James Milner says Jurgen Klopp’s ability to say what other managers would not dare say to players is part of the reason behind the Reds boss’s success.

The 30 year old thinks Klopp is above all genuine, and he is exactly the same in private as he is in public. He told the Guardian in an interview about Klopp:

“He says things that maybe a lot of managers think but won’t say. He is emotional and says what he thinks, rightly or wrongly. People can relate to that. It’s not an act. That’s the good thing – what you see is what you get.”

The relationship between the player and manager is integral for a team to be successful. If a player doesn’t trust a manager, it is unlikely he will buy in to the manager’s methods and tactics.

To have a manager like Klopp who is straightforward and is honest to a fault with his players helps players to know what is required of them to succeed. Their trust increases in the manager, and they then work harder to ensure that the boss’s tactics are carried out on the pitch on matchday. From the sounds of it, Klopp is a perfect man manager for the modern footballer.
