Liverpool had scouts watching striker Sardar Azmoun play for FC Rostov against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

Azmoun scored just before half time to make the score 1-1 in a match that Rostov went on to win 3-2 against the European giants. The Italian newspaper reports that manager Jurgen Klopp rates the Iranian international as a real talent.

The Reds boss has lamented the lack of forward options he will have at his disposal in January when Sadio Mane departs for the African Cup of Nations, and with Danny Ings sidelined with another major knee injury, Azmoun could provide more cover at a crucial stage of the season.

The 21 year old has scored just one goal in 12 matches in the Russian Premier League this season but his performances in Europe have been more impressive. In nine Champions League fixtures (including the qualifying rounds), the Iranian star has scored four times.
