The Belgian would give Liverpool some more steel in midfield with him being a more combative presence than any other player the club has in the squad. In terms of defensive strengths Lucas Leiva is arguably the best the Reds have and the Zenit man can certainly match that, as well as adding crucial mobility to a fluent Liverpool team. Playing in the Russian league means he could be a cheaper alternative too.
