The worrying reason why this Liverpool star missed out last night

In the build-up to our game last night at the Riverside Stadium against Middlesbrough, plenty of the discussion was concerned about who the Reds were going to play.

For sure, many felt that Simon Mignolet would come in for Loris Karius in goal and so that proved.

The Belgian had a good game, too, and so he may be set for a longer stint in-between the sticks.

Just in front of him, though, many were wondering who was going to play as the two centre halves. We thought Joel Matip would be fit and perhaps Ragnar Klavan would come in for Dejan Lovren but in fact it was the former Schalke man who missed out.

As we realised Klavan and Lovren would partner one another without Matip we began to worry how long he’d be out for whilst we also weren’t sure exactly why he was missing after playing in the West Ham game.

It appears, though, it was another ankle issue for the defender as per James Pearce of  The Liverpool Echo on Twitter and so now we’ll have to wait to see if he’s fit for Everton…
