The first leg of our League Cup semi-final took place last night as we headed down to the south coast to face Southampton.
It didn’t go as well as we’d have liked, though, as we lost 1-0 to our hosts at St. Mary’s thanks to a goal from Nathan Redmond.
The Englishman latched onto a poor mistake from Ragnar Klavan in the first half and, despite and in-form Loris Karius, the net was soon rippling.
From thereon things were even if unspectacular as the Reds did very little to manage to break down the Saints’ rearguard and the game soon fizzled out.
Attention will turn to the second leg, then, with us hoping for a rocking Anfield atmosphere to see us overcome the defecit and reach a Wembley final.
That remains to be seen, though, and so, in the meantime, here are the two players we felt should have done more in this game last night…
