Liverpool’s quest for the first silverware of this season, and Jurgen Klopp’s reign, continued last night as we faced Southampton in the first leg of the semi-final.

Things did not go completely to plan, though, as our hosts Southampton ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Nathan Redmond.

The Saints set their stall out early to be solid at the back and hit us on the break whilst the Reds, it has to be said, looked out of ideas early on as to how to get past them.

The goal in the end came from a mistake from Ragnar Klavan as he mistimed a clearance to allow Redmond to latch on and finish.

What followed was a pretty unspectacular affair with all attention now on the second leg at Anfield in a couple of week’s time.

In the meantime, though, here are three things we learned about the Reds from the defeat…
