There’s been more transfer rumours come about today concerning the Reds though one in particular we’re pretty sure we’d forgotten was even touted.
However, it was the case once upon a time that we were linked (by The Daily Star) with Napoli’s in-form forward Dries Mertens with a potential move for him touted in the January window.
The Belgian winger has certainly helped fill the void left by Gonzalo Higuain in Naples and would certainly help complement our playing style at the moment.
He likes to run at defenders with pace and expand the game and so he’d largely work well for our attack with Sadio Mane already there.
Such a move is looking unlikely now, though, with him reportedly set to sign a new deal with the Serie A club – as per Italian outlet Il Mattino.
We’re not sure Mertens was a massive target for us anyway, though, so we’re not too bothered by this one.
