It was a January to forget in more way than one for the Reds this time around.

Results on the pitch were far from good enough as lost a number of games and won only once – against Plymouth in a 3rd round replay of the FA Cup.

We were knocked out of both cup competitions as well as seeing our title challenge take significant blows and, finally, we were quiet in the transfer window.

It appears that was the case not for the want of trying, though, as The Mirror have revealed.

The Reds were certainly linked with plenty of names during the window and, apparently, our German boss was in serious negotiations with midfielder Julian Draxler – who eventually moved to PSG.

According to the report we were keen on bringing the exciting German international in but he tried to use PSG’s interest to up his potential wages with us – something Jurgen wasn’t keen on.

From there the deal was dead, and in many ways we’re thankful if Draxler has that attitude.
