As quoted FourFourTwo, it’s become clear that Christian Pulisic never really was close to joining the Reds at any point – coming as a bit of a blow.
The likes of The Daily Star have suggested that the young American attacker is one of Jurgen Klopp’s long-term targets but in light of his recent comments, it looks like that is very unlikely to amount to anything.
Pulisic said:
“I have respect for Klopp and I know him – he was very welcoming to me here – but I was never really thinking about going to Liverpool.”
Certainly, signing him from Dortmund would have been a statement of intent on our behalf given how highly-rated he is at the moment but it seems that he’s pretty set on staying in Germany.
Times could change, of course, but whilst we expect plenty more rumours surrounding this one to come up in the future we simply cannot see it happening and it’s best to not bother spending too much time thinking about it.
A shame, then, so let’s hope we’re more successful going after other stars.
