Key Liverpool man aims to explain reasoning behind baffling Bournemouth move

|

We’re still trying to fathom just what happened last night as the Reds once again let a side lower down in the table get a result against them.

And, once again, it was Bournemouth with a late goal against us to dent our top four chances with just minutes to go on the clock.

Indeed, it was a game where we were in control for large portions and we should have seen it out once we were 2-1 up.

As usual, though, we let our guard slip at the most crucial time and if this continues then the Champions League could be missed out on again.

And, one of the most confusing moves in the game saw Joel Matip come on for Philippe Coutinho as the Reds seemed to try and shut up shop.

Explanations have been wanted for that, then, and it appears Jurgen Klopp has tried to explain the move – as quoted by The Daily Star:

“We did the system (three at the back) of course because we did not have 20 options. When did we take off Phil? 60 something? It was for sure too early for Daniel Sturridge in this intense game.

“If you take Phil off and bring another striker, Divock Origi did really well in the centre so changing that I thought would not help.

“We are normally brave in these situations and try to win but that’s what we did.

“We thought it made sense to give one more defensive protection in the middle and still have a bit more freedom for Clyney [Nathaniel Clyne] and Millie [James Milner] on the wings.”
