Writing in his regular BBC Sport column, Garth Crooks has said that there may be a future at Liverpool for defender Mamadou Sakho.

Crooks was discussing the latest Team of the Week he’d put together and, naturally, after Crystal Palace beat Chelsea at the weekend, the powerful French defender was part of that.

He was there on merit, too, with the former PSG man becoming an instant hit at Selhurst Park after a string of fine displays that have brought some real steel and stability to the club in their relegation battle.

He’s only there on loan, though, and so he could end up back at Liverpool according to Crooks – particularly if we’re in the Champions League next season.

He said:

“If Liverpool were to get a top four place, and their chances seem to improve with every game, I can see Jurgen Klopp seriously thinking about retaining the services of the player to bolster his squad.”
