Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt has ended speculation that he could leave the Bundesliga club by signing a two year contract extension.

The 21 year old has been a long term target for Liverpool, but the German international stated during the summer that he would be remaining with his current team.

Since then, Brandt has gone on to perform well for Leverkusen, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 32 appearances this campaign.

The midfielder’s original deal was due to expire in 2019, meaning he would have had just 12 months left on his contract at the end of the season, but his extension means he is tied to the German side until 2021.

Speaking on his renewal on Wednesday, Brandt said (quotes via the Daily Mail):

“I see that something really big is growing here. The recent contract extensions of Jonathan Tah and Lars Bender (both Germany internationals) have shown that. We want to win titles.”

Leverkusen are currently fifth in the Bundesliga table, 24 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich with six games to go. They are however just one point behind RB Leipzig in fourth which could see them claim a Champions League spot for next season.
