Liverpool have plenty of work to do this summer if they’re to have any chance of knocking Manchester City off their perch at the top of the Premier League next season but they’re already set to be strengthened by a major arrival.
The Reds agreed a deal with Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig last summer for Naby Keita, who remained with the German side for the current campaign but is poised to move to Anfield this summer- significantly strengthening Jurgen Klopp’s midfield ranks.
With Emre Can set to leave on a free transfer when his deal expires in just a few months, Keita’s arrival is an even bigger boost and former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes he will become a Premier League sensation.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:
“They’ve already strengthened with the signing of [Naby] Keita from Leipzig. I think he is absolutely terrific. I was watching him against just last week in the Europa League and my goodness, this guy will probably give us what we’ve lacked.”
“In that three behind the front three – he gives you goals, he gives you assists, he gives you energy and he’s a nasty little character. There is only James Milner who will really put his foot in and I think this guy could be a real sensation in the Premier League.”
The 23-year-old Guinea international has made 23 Bundesliga appearances this term, netting five goals and contributing five assists.
