Liverpool have enjoyed a stellar campaign under Jurgen Klopp this season but, like the rest of the Premier League, find themselves adrift of Manchester City at the top of the table.

The Citizens are poised to lift the crown this season and Liverpool will see their long wait for league glory extend to 28 years, although there’s raised optimism of a charge for a Premier League title last season- although some doubt their credentials.

Speaking to The Daily Mirrorformer Manchester United man Paul Ince believes that Liverpool still have a way to go before they’re capable of topping Pep Guardiola’s side from their perch and lifting a league title for the first time since 1990.

“The facts speak for themselves. Manchester City will win the Premier League by 18-20 points – across 38 matches that’s a massive gap. People will say that they have been so far ahead that they have been playing without the usual pressure of competition. They can play their brand of football knowing they have a safety net of points. And that’s true.”

“Can they take on the likes of Watford at Vicarage Road and stamp their authority on a game, stick to their principles and come away with three points? They just about managed it at Crystal Palace last week. But beating Spurs and Manchester United proved beyond them.”

“Manchester City have answered those different questions. Liverpool have shown signs that they can – but also signs that they are not quite there yet, particularly before Christmas.”

Liverpool have at least shown their ability to overcome Manchester City on two occasions this season, shattering the Citizens’ hopes of an unbeaten title-winning campaign and inflicting a 3-0 Champions League defeat upon City at Anfield last week.
