Anfield took in a concerned gasp of air on Wednesday evening when Mohamed Salah was forced off during the Champions League quarter-final first-leg over Manchester City, issuing Jurgen Klopp’s side with a major injury concern.

The Egyptian ace took his tally in all competitions to 38 goals when he netted the opening goal in the 3-0 victory over the Citizens and fears of a long-term absence were widespread, for both club and country alike.

However, The Liverpool Echo state that the Reds are hopeful Salah will be able to feature in the return leg against Pep Guardiola’s side next week, although he’s set to miss the Merseyside derby against Everton this weekend.

Medical teams at Anfield believe Salah’s groin problem is just a minor knock but he won’t be risked for the match against the Toffees, instead being saved for Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with the Premier League’s runaway leaders.

The news is a massive boost for Liverpool, especially amidst reports that Emre Can may have played his last game for the club.
