Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has begun his transfer preparations for the close season early, as the Reds boss seeks deals to help the club in their quest to knock Manchester City off the top of their Premier League perch next season.

However, the first signing at Anfield this summer could be one for the future as The Sun reports Liverpool have opened negotiations with Brazil youngster Reinier Jesus, although they could have to wait two years to play him.

16-year-old Reinier Jesus is regarded as one of the finest young talents within Brazilian football and is currently tied to Flamengo until 2021. However, Liverpool have opened discussions with the player’s family regarding a move to England.

FIFA regulations stipulate that a South American player under the age of 18 cannot move to Europe unless his parents have moved to the nation for other reasons, meaning that Liverpool could face a long wait to bring the teenager to Anfield.

Former Flamengo president Kleber Leite confirmed the news, stating:

“I received certain information that the English club, who were monitoring the young Flamengo and Brazilian midfielder Reinier, 16, have already started negotiations with the boy’s family.”

“Our  young values ??are being erased prematurely, without even being able to write a page that is in the history of the Brazilian club that put them in the football world. Reinier will probably have another two years as a Flamengo player. Very little. Sad…”
