Rangers have made an approach to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim new Ibrox manager Steve Gerrard has asked about taking the 21-year-old on loan next season and his former club are open to a deal.

The Sun report that Liverpool “want a loan fee of £250,000 plus penalties if Wilson does not play enough games” amid rival interest in Wilson from Huddersfield, Aston Villa and Leeds.

OPINION

The good news for Gerrard is that Liverpool are open to loaning out rising star Wilson for next season, although the difficulty for Rangers is that the deal will not be cheap, and there is rival interest from Premier League and Championship big hitters. Wilson is well known to Gerrard from his spell in charge of the Liverpool Under-18s, even though the wide attacker principally played for the Under-23s before joining Hull on loan in January. Wilson made a huge impact at the north-east outfit, scoring seven goals and providing four assists from 13 Championship matches. He has been equally prolific from his right flank role for the Liverpool age-group sides, with 32 goals from 60 Under-23s games. The word is that Jurgen Klopp wants to have a good look at Wilson in pre-season, to assess whether he is ready to make the step up to the senior squad. If he is not, then Gerrard’s name and influence give Rangers a major advantage in their bid to win the race for the youngster’s signature.
