Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to focus a lot of attention on bolstering his midfield ranks this summer, with the Reds looking poised to lose Emre Can on a free transfer and seeing both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana sidelined for lengthy periods with injury.

The Champions League finalists are already set to benefit from the addition of Naby Keita, following an agreement reached with RB Leipzig last summer, but Klopp is not resting on his laurels and is reportedly eyeing another massive move.

Portuguese outlet A Bola state Liverpool are desperate to win the race for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes and they could break their club-record transfer fee to bring the Portugal international to the Premier League.

The Reds splashed £75m to land Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton in January but could exceed that figure with a move for 23-year-old Fernandes, also a target for Tottenham, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, as Sporting do not want to sell and the player has a mammoth €100m release-clause in his contract.
