Liverpool have been bracing themselves for the likely loss of Emre Can on a free transfer for a while now, although the race for the services of the Germany international has not been as clear cut as many anticipated it would be.

Serie A giants Juventus have long been the favourites to land the 24-year-old, and remain in front of the queue for his services, but reports of an agreement being reached have continuously fallen wide of the mark and the transfer saga has rumbled on.

Now, Calcio Mercato cite reports that indicate Inter Milan attempted to throw a spanner in the works of Juventus’ transfer plans with their own move for Can, although their attempts proved unsuccessful as he’s still set to move to Turin.

Currently sidelined with a back injury, Can has made 35 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season and is hoping to be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid next month.
