Jermaine Jenas has accused the Liverpool front three of being selfish recently and believes they will need to fix that problem quickly with two huge fixtures ahead of them.

The Reds trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have been at the core of the club’s success this season, scoring a combined total of 89 goals in all competitions.

However, BBC pundit Jenas feels that they have stepped off the gas in the recent defeats at the hands of Roma and Chelsea.

The Merseyside club still qualified for the Champions League final despite their loss to Roma, where they play Real Madrid on 26 May.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also still have a potentially vital Premier League clash with Brighton on the final day of the season beforehand and could be locked together on points with Chelsea in the race for the top four.

“I saw something in the second leg of their semi-final against Roma which I have not seen all season, which was Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane being selfish for the first time,” Jenas told BBC Sport.

“People have been talking about this Liverpool attack as being among the best front threes we have seen in European competition, but that is on the basis of them playing together as a unit.

“Yes, it is just one game where that did not happen but it has happened this week, and it was followed by another game against Chelsea where they did not link up as well as usual.

“Liverpool need to fix this quickly because they have got two of the most important games of their whole season coming up.”

OPINION

Liverpool’s dynamic frontline have been in scintillating touch this campaign and between them are smashing record. It will have been impossible to stay at their peak throughout the entire campaign, but the Reds are going to need them fully back up to speed for the final two matches of the campaign. The season pretty much hinges on the next two results and it will define in which European competition they are playing next year. Liverpool are still in the driving seat to finish in the top four of the Premier League, but may need to at least match Chelsea’s result on the final day of the season. They have given the London club a slim opening that didn’t exist weeks ago and it would be catastrophic if they were to be caught. Meanwhile, they are on the verge of European glory as they chase down the Champions League crown, but know they will have to be on top of their game to overcome Spanish giants Real Madrid.
