Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to focus on improving his midfield ranks this summer, with the Reds poised to lose the services of Emre Can at the end of his contract in just a few months time.

A host of potential targets have already been linked with a move to the Champions League semi-finalists, which is fortunate as it gives Klopp a number of options – especially as they trail to a Premier League rival in the chase for one player.

Portuguese outlet A Bola state Chelsea are leading the chase for 23-year-old Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has a whopping £83m release-clause in his contract and is poised to star for Portugal at this summer’s World Cup.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been attributed with an interest in Fernandes, who has four caps for his nation after making his debut last summer, but the Blues lead the chase – although Liverpool’s ability to offer Champions League football could prove to be decisive.
