Rangers are confident of completing the signing of exciting Liverpool forward Harry Wilson by 1 June, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Glasgow giants are set to land Wilson on a one-year loan after talks advanced over the week for a player highly rated by new boss Steven Gerrard.

The Scottish Sun report the 21-year-old is likely to be joined at Rangers by his former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel as the club put the finishing touches to a £2.7million agreement with his club Fenerbahce.

This is just what Rangers wanted when they pulled off the shock appointment of Gerrard. For him to hit the ground running by using his name, influence and contacts to bring in players they wouldn’t have had a hope of signing without the Liverpool icon at the helm. Last summer, the Light Blues were paying over the odds for Mexican and Portugese pals of Pedro Caixinha, none of whom had any experience of British football. Now, Rangers are on the verge of beating top English clubs to the loan signing of a brilliant young Liverpool talent who has already demonstrated he can thrive in the highly demanding English Championship, scoring seven times in 13 matches while on loan at Hull last season. Moreover, Gerrard is simultaneously also wrapping up a deal for battle-hardened centre-back Skrtel for the kind of fee Rangers have not paid for half a decade. Skrtel is still good enough and young enough to make the kind of impact at Ibrox that Bruno Alves, three years older, was not able to last season. These are heady times for Rangers supporters, who have suffered for so long.
