OPINION

Liverpool have been dealt a key update about the fitness of Oxlade-Chamberlain and it may cause the club to re-think their summer transfer plans. The central midfielder was playing a vital role in Jurgen Klopp’s side following his arrival from Arsenal and looked right at home at Anfield. However, he has been forced to miss the Champions League final with Real Madrid and World Cup with England, but it looks like he could now miss the opening months of the season. Liverpool should be able to manage without him in the European final and have plenty of legs in the middle in the shape of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner. Oxlade-Chamberlain does give an extra attacking impotence when he plays and has looked lively for the Merseyside club. The playmaker finished the campaign with 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying eight assists in return.
