Liverpool have been handed a boost in the hunt for AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after the Serie A club hired a new goalkeeping coach, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian site report that Alfredo Magni has left the post and is set to be replaced by former Milan goalkeeper Valerio Fiori, who played for the club between 1999 and 2008.

Calciomercato claim that this change could have a massive impact on the 19-year-old’s decision making this summer, with the young goalkeeper said to be very close to the departing Magni.

It is said that Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in a move for the colossal 6ft 5in Italy international [Transfermarkt].

Good move for Liverpool?

Absolutely.

Donnarumma is one of world football’s best young talents, with his potential being huge considering his experience already at such a young age.

The 19-year-old is already a brilliant goalkeeper and would provide an instant solution to the Reds’ problems in goal over the last few years.

Not only would he provide that short-term solution, but his young age means that Donnarumma could well go on to occupy the sticks for Liverpool for many more years, providing a long-term option for the club as well.

Likely to happen?

Liverpool have been linked with Donnarumma throughout the summer, but those rumours have gone quiet in recent weeks.

This development may cause a rise in claims that Liverpool are interested in the youngster, although it is not actually known whether the club are indeed considering a bid.

They seem to have other targets in mind ahead of him, but that does not rule him out by any means.

The main issue here will be price, with Milan sure to seek a huge sum for their talented starlet.
