Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has raved about Liverpool centre-forward Danny Ings, but admits he will not be trying to sign him this summer.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the 25-year-old is in a dilemma over his future due to a lack of game time and Crystal Palace are just one of the club’s queuing over a potential move for him.

Rodgers has explained that Celtic are not in the market for the English striker and are already well stocked in the attacking department with Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths.

“Danny (Ings) is a fantastic player and has been really, really unfortunate for a few years with injury but I have got the three strikers at the moment and we don’t need any more,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“We just signed young Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal and he is a class act. We also have Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths so with those three we are well covered.”

OPINION

The future of Ings is still unclear and it remains to be seen if manager Jurgen Klopp wants to keep him around in the 2018/19 campaign. Ings managed just 14 first-team appearances last season and has had rotten luck with injuries in recent years. Liverpool could do with a new forward option to compete with Roberto Firmino next season and offloading Ings this summer may make perfect sense. The English striker may not be on the radar of Scottish champions Celtic, but he will clearly still attract plenty of attention. He can be a clinical finisher int he 18-yard box when he is fully fit and is surely worth the risk for some Premier League sides. He previously proved himself during his time with Burnley and also has one international cap for England under his belt. Ings’ career doesn’t have to be over at his age and shipping him on at an affordable price would be a good gesture from Liverpool.
